Mot questions

Hi All.

I have a car that I have fitted a drivers 4 point (FIA) Sabelt harness into. The car did have inertia belts when manufactured (1999). Do I have to replace the original for the MOT ? Next point the car did have a rear mirror which has come off months ago , I have 2 wing mirrors again do I need to have the rear view mirror fitted for the MOT . Thanks in advance.

FIA harness aren't an accepted seatbelt for MOT, unless they have an E mark.

Pproviding you have 2 external mirrors you don't need the internal (think van). Its different for IVA as you need so show that if you had a central mirror it would provide no reasonable view.

Harness don't need the e mark provided they are fitted correctly and in working order.
Mirrors you need a drivers mirror i:e the side or the interior one and one other so 2 side mirrors or an interior and on e side mirror is all that is requiered

Indeed, the manual has been updated. Some online guides quote
'9. Adult harness belt
An adult harness belt comprising a lap belt and shoulder straps bearing a British Standard or European approval marking (an upper case ’E’ or lower case ‘e’ and a number) is an acceptable alternative to any of the seat belt types listed.'

Current one on .gov.uk site states :
'9. Adult harness belts
Adult harness belts comprising a lap belt and shoulder straps are an acceptable alternative to any of the seat belt types listed.'
