Show me your DIY Airbox
Picked up a cheap Pipercross viper air filter on ebay so I'm thinking about changing my sausage filter (which was tight inside the bonnet with
the Pinto so will most likely be even tighter with the Duratec!) and making my own airbox and ducting to the filter/frontof the car.
Airbox will go on ZX6r carbs respaced to suit the engine.
Would be interesting to see what solutions people have come up with.
Cheers
Dave

This was the airbox my mate for my R1 powered Indy. We didn't have enough space beneath the bonnet and the top of the engine to reverse the
original airbox, so we made a new one which started out as a piece of card.
We used the original K&N air filter which came with the bike engine, and make all the inlet holes the same size as the original.
It's pretty handy when one of your mates is a sheet metal worker by trade and bloody handy with an aluminium welder.
I'm sure he'd take orders if I asked him very nicely....

I was running a half under the bonnet/half out filter. Decided to just cut the bonnet for a full filter in the end. I used an old sausage filter
plastic mount some alloy a friend welded and a PX600 filter.

Thanks everyone - some good inspiration there. I notice that they all look to be welded. Has anyone made one with just pop rivets?

Hi, this is my airbox.
The side piece is riveted to the base and the 'lid' is screwed to a lip I mounted
inside the box with riveted angle brackets. All sealed inside with the sikaflex.
I created a silicon seal by putting a sheet of grease proof paper on the inside of the lid and
running a bead of silicone on the mounting lip. I fitted the lid loosely with it's screws and
left it for a couple of days. Once removed, the silicone had stuck to the aluminium lip
and the grease proof paper just pealed of leaving a flexible seal.
The filter can be remotely mounted if I find it necessary.

I've made a couple of these myself, in 'glass, Ali and CF, but I have to say that apart from the height of it at the inlet being to short
and weight of it ('cause I used to be a weight conscious freak!), that has to be one of the best air boxes I've seen...
Tell your mate he's done a bang up job with that! Especially as he probably "found" the bits of Ali too!

I think that I shall need to do some CAD, cardboard aided design to see if that will fit under the Fury bonnet,... it would be going on a silvertop,.
