Hi all, i was just wondering if anybody could clear up for me what i need to do to apply for SVA? Do i need to get the car inspected and a VIN issued before applying and if so how do i go about that bit? I have read lots on the subject but just seem to get more confused with it all!!! Thanks in advance

NO problem.

Just done the whole process, so here is what you need to do..

1. Get a VIN number.
Call DVLA central number and follow the automated message trail and get to talk to someone in the end and say that you are building a kit and require a VIN number and inspection (some do the inspection after SVA prior to registration).

You will get a registration form to complete but need details from SVA to do that. You should also get an appointment for DVLA to inspect (this is you local office) or they may not do this till after SVA.

2. Stamp VIN number to chassis, do this your self and sign the sheet as both the owner and garage!

3. Conact the VRO office (number on net) and ask for an SVA application form.

4. Complete the SVA form and return with money (CHQ)

5. Get SVA appointment at local (nearest) VRO office.

6. Pass SVA and get MAC.

7. Get MOT done.

8. Go to the local DVLA office with the registration form completed, along with the MAC, VIN number stamp letter, MOT, insurance certificate, Driving license and passport and Birth Certificate and a utility bill.

9. Pay money for TAX disc while doing 8.

10. A couple of days later you'll get you tax disc.

This is for a Q plate by the way.
