Engine Change
Hi
I'm sure this has probably been covered before but i couldn't find anything. Anyway, I built my car from the original book with a 1300cc
kent engine and got it on the road in 2002. Over the years I tuned the engine , Gas flowed head, cam etc.. but it got very tired so I replaced it with
a black top 2.0l Zetec which I was lucky enough to buy new at a very good price, Megajolt and 45 DCOEs. So my question is when I notify the DVLA am I
going to have problems with the emissions ,IVA etc any advise please on the process involved would be gratefully received .

Emissions regs may well become a problem, if your engine is of post-1995 manufacture, when you have the car MoT-ed. I'll be facing the same
problem later this year. Check out cats on Ebay; you may have to fit one in your exhaust.
Work-in-Progress: Changed to Zetec + T9. Still trying!!

Is it already registered and has it been used on the road as a 1300 crossflow?
If so then it is just a change of engine and the original emissions standards will still apply. No need for IVA.

I have the same thought. A 1300 xflow in at the moment, have a 205 pinto, short sumped, FR cam, twin 40 DLHA's, 4 into 1 ready to go in but
haven't used it yet. Also got a ST170 recently and have been thinking about using that but don't know how that will affect the MoT ect.

Thanks for the info.
Yes it is registered and has been used on the road so hopefully I just need to send Reg Docs to the DVLA with the receipt for the engine, fingers
crossed .

I changed the engine on my last car from a pre 1995 1.8 to a new 2.0 Blacktop. There was no change to emissions but they initially rejected my engine
receipt because it didn't have the engine number on it. There was also some suggestion of having a garage provide a receipt to prove it had been
fitted but I explained I had built the car originally and had also done the engine change.
I don't remember 100% but I think I also sent a few pictures to support my application to change the V5.

from MOT testers manual, sec 7.3

I think the main reason dvla are fussy on engines, is so they can tax it correctly

Unless it states on you logbook the emission levels.
Not all Q plates are checked for smoke only.

But they should be, the MOT manual states clearly that they are to be tested on smoke only.
