AGE RELATED TAX
Hi folks does anyone know if my main doner was registered pre1972 and an age related plate issued would it then qualify for free tax, i am assuming
not otherwise we would be all be chasing early ford etc. but does any one know. regards martin

no, you wouldnt! would gordon let that one get by for long?
as in, no free tax, not no tax...

just a quick note . It appears you can get free tax if your doner vehicle was pre 72 as theres a locost v8 on e bay at present thats tax exempt

He may think it is tax exempt but it isn't!!!
The tax exemption is based on manufacture date NOT age related plate date. The manufacture date of your car will be the day you finnished it NOT the
date the donor was finnished. The age related plate is because enough of the donor was used to suggest that the vehicle has an identity linked to a
vehicle that age NOT that it is that age.

A mate of mine built a Locost based on a Mk2 Cortina, SVA'd four years ago. Got age related plate, (old 'F', and free tax...
Dont just build it.....make it!

ohh bugger!!!! hey chunkielad see your building mcscosleys bigger chassis, i am doing the std chassis and have basicly just finished the
chassis only, and i dont think i am going to fit in it sod it. looks like i have to go on a diet and loose lots or sell it and start again..

I wouldnt worry...Its probably going anyway.
My whisper is that Uncle Gordon is going to stop the free tax in a few years time, so we fall in line with the EU, and have tax on the fuel. Those who
use most pay most. It will also have a Green element is to encourage well tuned cars to reduce pollution etc.
Another step towards a Federal Europe, ie another thing "harmonised" with the rest of the EU.
Its going to be a short lived thing - Free Tax.
When it first came out it was a rolling 25 years, and the very next budget the froze year to a fixed date of Dec 31st 1972.
Now they realise the extent of the quantity of cars involved they want to reduce it further or abolish it completely.
I could be wrong, but it was from a good source.

The vehicle age is calculated from the date of first registration or from the end of the year of manufacture, if the vehicle was not new when
registered.
This is from DVLA
I think someone has got away with it because the bloke at the post office just looked at the reg number!!!

It is not down to the person at the post office. To get tax for free the vehicle has to be registered as taxation class "Historic" rather
than "PLG" as most cars are.
I went to tax a 1971 Mini at the local post office mid way through SORN and could not get it free as it had never been re-registered Historic (when
previously taxed free it had been by renewal and correct filling in of the forms when the car reached the appropriate age). Had to go to the local
DVLA office to get it sorted and get the tax disc.
It MAY be that if the donor is registerd Historic you will get that for the new car, and if not you won't.
