front light MOT questions
Can anyone shed some light on what front lights are tested on an MOT? Its for a kit car and i cant imagine using it in anything but perfect conditions
and probably never at night.
I presume side and dipped but what about main beam and flash? Does the car need a light to show that sides or dipped are on?
Its got R1 clocks that have indicator lights, etc built in.
Cheers

AFAIK you don't need a flash, but do need a main beam. No tell-tale required for side/dipped, but is for main beam.

Sides:
Only those which either have no front or rear position lamps or have such lamps permanently disconnected, painted over or masked that are:
• only used during daylight hours, and
• not used at times of seriously reduced visibility.
and Heads:
Headlamps are not required to be fitted to vehicles used only during the hours of daylight, which are fitted with neither front nor rear position
lamps, etc. (See 1.1.A).
If there they are tested.
Sides:
Two front position lamps must be fitted, one on each side and show a steady white light to the front (or yellow if incorporated in a yellow
headlamp).
Heads/Mains:
Check that the vehicle is securely fitted with obligatory headlamps, as follows:
• a matched pair of main beam headlamps, and
• a matched pair of dipped-beam headlamps
c. on vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1986, the ‘tell-tale’ illuminates when main beam is selected. (so not applicable to Qs)

Cheers for the replies
Its crazy a car doesnt need lights for a MOT! I had a ZX10 track bike with 'daylight mot' and all it needed was horn, plate and
reflector......not even a brake light needed!!!!
