IVA and MOT
My car passed IVA at Nottingham during the summer and i taxed it for 6 months.
The 6 months ran out on the 31st Oct but i couldnt re-new the tax as the car doesnt have an MOT cert ?
I have spoken to the DVLA and they say i need an MOT when i said that its just had a £450 MOT 6 months ago, and if i had applied for 12 months tax i
would have been driving around in a car without a valid MOT for 6 months until the tax reminder arrived in the post ?
Have i missed some small print somewhere ?
Or am i just another ripped off motorist in the UK ?
If the info from the DVLA is incorrect please let me know
Rant or warning to others over
Thanks
Nick M

DVLA often get this wrong, Its not to do with the 6months but its as the v5 is an amended version of the donors, so comes up as an old car on the
system, so it needs an MoT.
Usually you can try at the post office and show the v5 where it says the registration date.
If not then there is an old version of the V112 which has the section for choosing the age as the reason for exemption.
I have it saved here, but no guarantees.

What does it say on you v5 for make, model, year of first reg and any special notes?
The dvla often screw that up, which can make things more awkward
But as any car that's been iva'd counts as new you don't need an mot for 3 years (just like any new car)

Got it taxed at a Post Office this afternoon.
The reg doc just says Sylva J15 PLG its on a Q plate, the car is effectively brand new apart from gearbox and steering coloumn hence why i didnt opt
for the brand new plate (2 second hand parts).

Hi
31st May 2018 is the first registration date there is no donor for my build as such, although most cars can be built with a Fiesta Mk 4 donor.

Well that whats supposed to happen tried doing my striker online after I brought it as the new owner. It said the car had no mot So I phoned the tax
office for them to tell me to phone the DVLA and they said it needs a Mot because it's on a Q Plate To which I said it's just has only
just passed it's IVA with the last owner
& it's classified as a new car I you sure about this he said yes because it's Q Plate and we dont no some of the parts for the build.
In the end I went to the post office with the V5 & other paper work from the Register process & I got 6 months tax no problem they said it
happen all the time online it's best to go to the post office
