switch illumination
Just about to order some switches for my fog light and fan override. They have a warning lamp to show when the item is switched on, but no background
illumination for night time identification when the headlights are on (like dash illumination)
Does anyone know what the SVA requirements are for this?
Also do they have to be identified in a particular way?

Switch illumination is not requirdfor SVA.
Indicator light is required on rear fog lamp switch and on a manual reverse switch.

my understanding was that the labels had to be visable at night, hence by default you need some sort of dash lighting? i may be wrong though...
certainly hope so!

the swithes have to be labelled?
i though the only compulsory labelling was for the brake warning lamp ala (!)

you may be right... i forgot and was talking about warning lights, not switches!
id go for the minimum complement, to make things simple!

I have 3 switches, rear fog, reverse and heater.
These are only labeled with symbols (no text).
All have a warning light but the heater switch doesn't really need one.
IGN,Oil,Main beam and Indicatorwarning lights are NOT labelled.
The brake warning light must have the correct markings and MUST be the correct way up.

as far as I was aware the book only mentions labelling the brake warning lamp, no switches have to be labelled.
I will only have 1 switch, for the foglamp, which will incorporate the warning lamp for it.
Everything else will be switched off one single stalk and the hazard switch on the steering column. (ahhh, the wonders of an opel manta steering
column!)

Doesn't the hazard flasher have to be red and have a triangle on it as well as the fluid warning one? I've never seen anything specifying
that switches must be labelled with their function but it makes life easier if more than one driver uses the vehicle.

As far as i have read the hazard tell tale doesnt need ID. Most of the buttons though flash red, are engraved and also flash the indicator tell
tale.
Interstingly the manual talks about the indicator tell tale - not required if the driver can see one of the front indicators (eg if mounted on top of
cycle wing). However the hazard light does need a tell tale and it can use the indicator dash mounted tell tale!! Another area that shows possible
contradiction (unless the hazard section wasnt updated by mistake when the indicator tell tale bit was updated! - ive just re-read and perhaps the red
illuminated hazard switch acts as the tell tale meaning the book is not so daft - what do you think?? )
