Rev and fog lights

Talking Back lights - Has anyone passed SVA with;

1. a single fog light mounted dead central on the rear panel (the manual says it has to be on central line or to the right but it defines the edges of the lamp. In reality i have read it as it is ok to put the left hand edge of the lamp on the centre line of the vehicle and NOT the centre line of the lamp on the centre line of the vehicle) Difficult to write but means the light will look offset by half its width. Iam asking because after test i intend to fit a single round one in the centre so want to mount the fog for SVA so that the mod is easy / no holes to fill.

2. No reverse light. Not required for MOT and stated as optional in the manual but i have heard it said you need one if the car is capable of being powered in reverse - maybe it is specified elsewhere in the manual. If one is fitted i assume it is OK to power it via a seperate switch as long as it incorporates a tell tale light.

3. Clear lensed indicator / stop&tail with coloured bulbs (standard fit on land rovers so i know they are correct automotive units).

The book is so bloody confusing and it appears that tester interpretation on items not covered is King. I want to play safe but also keep things simple. It appears that Gosforth testing station are a bit strict about all things - maybe dont get so many kits through.

Cheers,
Darren.

With regards to the fog light, I read it as "on the centre line or to the right of it"

So anywhere from the centreline to the right I would see as fine, but then I won't be testing your car!

timsta,

The front of the lights section defines the edges of the lights and refers to these in the descriptions. Im going to take it(rightly or wrongly) as the LH side of the light can be on CL of car to be safe, ie it is slightly offset to the right. The hole will be located such that when my central round light is fitted later there will be no visible hold in the back panel.

I think this is one of those areas where some testers may miss it and some may be super critical (they are only human after all).

What about reverse light? its listed as optional but i dont know if it is covered elsewhere in the manual.

The reverse light is definately optional on type approval so I believe it to be optional for SVA as well.

This is my fog light, bang on the centre line, it passed no problems.

It was originally hanging from the bottom of the chassis but that was too low.

Coloured bulbs are a made move -- they fade quickly this very common MOT failure on Rovers so much so I now change mine ever year as a matter of course.

A bit accademic on a Locost which is unlikely ever to be out in the fog but rear fog light should be on the right when viewed from the rear for good reason--- if you want symmetry match it with a reverse light.
Reverse light should be either automatic or have a warning light.
