Engune dating.
No, I'm not looking for a night out with an engine, I have a 1300 crossflow which I bought on Ebay. I was told it was from a '79 Mk2
Escort, but how can I be certain? Will the SVA man care? I read that the date of manufacture needs to be proved to determine the need for an emissions
test.
Cheers

We took ours to SVA with no letter from the manufacturers, he wasn't bothered and didn't ask.
Engine is a Crossflow ('78) and the test station was Chadderton.
(Disclaimer: As the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing regarding the DVLA, take this message as experience and phone the SVA station
and ask them )

I got a letter from Ford's Tech Dept. All you have to do is write to them with the engine No. and they'll give you the info gratis. Their
address is Ford Technical Information Dept, PO Box 300, Walsall, WS5 4QH. You can phone or fax them on Tel: 01922 725 551 or Fax: 01922 725 266.
A bit of slapstick never hurt anyone.

serves you right for picking a pig of an engine to fit when you could have gone crossflow
if you can afford the gaskets then you can afford the cost of the engine letter
