Colour change legalities
Ive been thinking about replacing my side and rear of my car and wondered what the situation is legally about fitting coloured panels. Or in short,
"how much ball ache is it?"
If its just a quick for then the change might be on.

what are you asking?
Is it legal to fit coloured body panels to a car? Yes.
It is a lot of trouble to register the change of colour with the DVLA? No, I shouldn't think so. Phone them and check but I think you send
them your V5, with the new colour written on it and an explaining letter and they alter their records. No?

Your 2nd guess at what I was trying to say is correct. Im thinking of changing the colour of my car for the colour on the registration docs.

You simply send off the V5 with the colour change marked on, and it magically comes back a few weeks later showing a different colour.
Seezy as that.

The downside is that sometimes they add one to the number of former keepers and flatly refuse to put it right - been there!
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

If it's a worry, keep the original V5 somewhere safe and apply for a replacement.
When you sell the car you then have both V5s

the V5 normally only records basic colour (green, blue etc). You are only changing the sides and rear panels. Does this mean bonnet, wings and nose
are as stated on V5? Do you have to change the colour at all?

My V5 states silver/black. So I dont think I could get away with swapping all the silver with say red
