LED's as tell tales???
Can I use a red LED as a hazard warning tell tale and another as a handbrake/low brake fluid tell tale if they have the appropriate lable next to
them?

IIRC the symbols must be illuminated.

I failed sva for this. The handbrake warning needs to be lit up not just a bulb with a label under it. Another shite rule.

Can you not simply engrave the symbol onto the front of LED - or is it too small??

The handbrake/low brake fluid light is the only one that needs to be marked.
ALL the other lights can be coloured bulbs/LEDs without any markings. That's how my car passed its SVA test.

I'm getting my mate to engrave the face of one of my warning LED's for the brake warning.
