Legal Question
Legally do you have to have cycle wings on the front ?
I shattered one of mine on Tuesday, and can't get any more till next week. Dying to get back out in the car, so wondering if I can get away with
taking the other one off and both brackets off and just doing without altogether for the time being ??
Well le me know - can I play out or not ??
Cheers,
Mike

you shouldnt technically, but it would be an observant copper who noticed it, and i cant imagine it being a serious offense anyway. Probably result in
a vehicle defect notice at worst. No promises though!

Not necessarily cycle wings.
Put some aluminium sheet over the wheel as a temporary measure bolted to your stays. You have to have them covered with something. If you get caught
with just one missing you could claim it's just happened but if both are missing you will be without an alibi and knowingly driving a vehicle
with bodywork in a dangerous condition. You will also notice the amount of stuff that comes off the tyre and is evenly distributed in a radial pattern
onto the rear arches is now multiplied and going up in the air and everywhere including your face.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

What happens if you get a defective vehicle notice ? Points ? Fine ? Produce ?
Don't want any trouble off'sir
I just don't need the aggrivation right now tbh, only just got the car, and the log book is away at the dvla - producing etc. will only be a
hassle. You know what they're like

The Police do have the option to issue you with defective vehicle notice, which means you will have to re take your MOT at an approved testing
station.

Don't fancy that much !!! May leave the other one on intact then, and the bent bracket and missing wing - claim I've only just lost it and
I'm now on the way home !!!
Would they buy it ?

Not if you are going away from home. Suspect patience would be a good idea

remember, a pigeon knocked it off! you dont want them thinking its a rickety car. That and sneezing can explain many non-fault events on the road

if you did drive the car, make sure you've got the damaged wing (or whats left of it) with you - makes it more convincing that its just fallen
off.
If you get stopped going away from home - tell them your going over to a mates who thinks he can fix it (and smile a bit)
