Chassis number
I was told by someone at DVLA (after being passed to about 6 different operators) that I couldn't get a chassis number until after the SVA, then
I could get an MOT
But I want to get an MOT first. I don't need one after because my car won't be three years old
I don't think they knew what they were talking about. Nobody seemed to know what I was talking about
The fact is I can't get an MOT without a chassis number and DVLA say I can't have a chassis number, I have to pass the SVA first. What
tosh!
Any comments?
Cheers
Jon

Been here before!!
You don't want an MOT before SVA, if you get one you will then be on the system and will have to have an MOT every year from now on and not
after 3 years.
I had excatly the same problem as you, I wanted an MOT before SVA so I could be sure the car was safe.
I rang Swansea and the categorically said I could make up my chassis number, I made one up and booked in for an MOT.
When I got to the MOT they said they would not be able to do a full MOT as until the car is registered they don't know what emmissions test to
do so they said they would do a 'General Inspection' which was basically an MOT without the paperwork. This is what they did and it was
all fine.
I got it SVA'd and then went to Brighton DVLA office for the inspection, they inspected it and didn't even ask anything about where I got
the chassis number, no problems at all.
So my advice is make up the chassis number, book for an MOT (has to be booked so you can drive the car there), when you get there ask that they
don't do an MOT but just a 'General Inspection', get it SVA'd, then go and get it inspected and registered at your local
office.

Agree with Shortie.
That's what I did, except Sheffield VRO said they were too busy to inspect it, and if it passed SVA, that's good enough for them!!
