SVA Thursday at Shrewsbury aaaghhh

Just spent today fitting the front mudguards and trying to get some self centering fron the steering. (read all the treads on that one, thanks guys)

Wish me luck... Just to get there and back.

I know I will fail because the tester (Mark) told me I would. "The whole point of the test is so you fail and we give you a list of things you need to fix" or some such words.

My coil overs are potential failure items (not worked out how to protect them yet) and I am not happy with the head light brackets but, as I see it, he gives me a list, I work through it.

Anyone know someone decent in the Crewe area that does engine work as when I get my age related plate I've got a 2.0l to rebuild.

old r/c tyres are apparently good for covering the shock absorbers sharp bits.

Pajsh,

I used some larger u shaped rubber trim, flattened it out wrapped it round both ends of the coil over and overlapped and clued the ends.

I had my sva today at Shrewsbury with Stuart, I too had the same comment from Mark. Mine failed as predicted ( i knew it would as i had a last minute problem with my brakes) But Stuart was fantastic, He talked me through everything and made sveral suggestions/tips on how to solve the problems. Absolutely fantastic Guy I can't praise him enough.

I will be posting my fail points in the sva section latter, if they are any help to you. Any questions U2U

Thanks for the words.

I spoke to Stuart today because my sister in law died this morning and I wasn't sure if I was going to make the test.

He was very understanding and sounds a decent guy.

I will still try and make the test having spent the weekend getting ready for it.

I know I will fail but at least I will know what needs doing.

SVA Fail

Guess what, it failed.

Stuart was pretty fair, only a couple of things I felt were borderline but no point arguing.

At the end of the day I'm going to have a safer car so worth the test and I now have my list to work through.

Can't say I enjoyed it though.

There were 16 points some very minor others needing a bit of work.

One was the grub screws in the coilover adjuster nuts were not locked.

The main ones will need welding to beef up the trailing arm and harness mounts which I felt was harsh but probably safer in the long run as I am planning on taking it on the track.

It was about 50/50 between what I have done and what the guy before me did. Some misunderstandings, some just inexperience.

Most points really relate just to my car but as it might help someone I will post a list with photos if possible next week.

Given personal circumstances it might be a couple of months before I can get to it all.
