fuel tank mounts
im half way through building me fuel tank, its not for locost so just a general design question really-
is it (for sva) ok to have welded on mounts to bolt the tank to the chassis rather than the straps most people use? only worry i can see is if a mount
tears a hole in the tank in an impact so its common sense to use a welded in load spreader to weld the bracket to, but im using stainless steel (about
.9mm thick) so it wont exactly tear easily!
its an odd shape so straps wouldnt be practical although not impossible.

tank mounts
you need to have some kind of give in the mountings because when the fuel moves in the tank it can tear the tank or its mountings

Avon had just two lengths of 3mm flat bar welded across the bottom of the tank sticking out 1" at each side then bolted through the chassis.
No probs with SVA or any other probs.
Pat...
No trees were killed in the sending of this message.
However a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

for my tank I made three L shape brackets and used three exhaust bobbins to go between the chassis and tank.

i just welded it up to the chasis.
i even cant remove the Stainless steel tank without cutting the 2 rear bars..and removing the rear panel.
Hope it is good welded...(its welded with arc by an specialist)

nice one,
cheers for the replys guys, exaust bobbins sound like a good idea, ill do that. welding it in sounds a bit too permanent for me

depends on how you see it...
mine is not from ally sow using it as an stressing chasis member mighthave benefits....
i don't take out every day my tank you?
in fact you don't will do it....
even repairing will be done in the car...
