Selling Donors Reg Number
If I sell my Sierra's donor reg number what will happen when I come to register my kit?
If I sell the reg number on, will DVLA give me a new one or will I be left with a V5C without a number?
Also does the donor have to have MOT & Tax to transfer the number. At the moment I have an MOT but the car is on SORN.

from what i remember the both cars have to have tax and mot
when the reg is transferred you will be issued with a new number
that what happened when i sold a plate (2 years ago)

I know someone who wants to sell his Donor number and he also found that the car needs tax and mot to transfer, Bit of a bummer isnt it.

Give the DVLA a ring to see if there is another way but I think you are stuffed.

Can you put it on a Retention Certificate and then transfer it from there.

IIRC you cannot transfer a plate off a vehicle unless it has a current MOT. It makes no difference if you ar transferring it to a retention
certificate or another vehicle. If the vehicle has a current MOT but is not road legal, you cannot transfer the VRM because you may need to take the
car for inspection. I had a struggle trying to transfer a cherished number off a written off car for this reason. The vehicle was legal on paper but
in the flesh, it was squished...

one illegal approach would be to swap chassis plate and reg plates onto an identical car, and get that tested. Depends how bad you want the reg!

Yep - reg donor car needs valid MOT and tax. Steve - im sure a man of your calibre can get it MOT'd. Insure it with a place that can do 14 day
refunds. Tax it - apply for retention.
You can then waste a year of your life advertising the plate with one of those broker type people who will advertise it for squillions more than its
worth.

I think that mot and tax can be no more than 6 months out of date.
