Fog Lights
Does anybody know if its a requirement to have the fog lights switched only when the headlights are on, as in production cars, or can i just wire as
normal using iluminated switch.

Only with lights on.
It used to be that they could only come on with dipped beam but now most cars seem to have them wired to come on with sidelights and main as well,
best to check with your SVA station for their view on this. Just power them from the relevant relay through an illuminated switch if that's what
you are asking.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I am sure on the Sierra wiring the supply for the fog light comes from the side lights.
So to be safe just do the same.

Just read through the SVA manual, the only reference to Fog lights, is that they should have a "Tell tale" indicator lamp, that must be
seen from the steering position. Must be square to the rear of the vehicle, verticaly and horizontaly. It doesn't actualy mention about how they
should opperate. Not much help, but thats the manual. Regards Ray.

Thanks for the replys, I read the manual and, as as noted there is no refrence to working with sidelights etc.
But i think to be safe i will wire through the side light relay.
Cheers

... if SAV manual deson't specify, it may be an MOT thing; dunno but I thought it was switched when side lamps are on? (it's strange how
you never notice these things ... )

Fog lights as opposed to spot or driving lamps must be able to come on without the headlights. Fog lights are normally placed low down and set to
shine on the road a short way in front of the car so that the driver is not dazzled by the glare from the fog. It is illegal to use them if visibility
is less than 100 metres and the same applies with the high intensity rear light.
I think the minimum headlamp height rule applies to auxilliary driving lights and I could never understand how Peugeot got away with under the bumper
lights on the 205gti that illuminated with main beam. Manufacturers seem to be above the law. Would we get away with driving with 3 normal tyres and
one of 135 section?
