helps to have one as it acts as a test for the brake warning light which is required for SVA

no hand brake switch will mean you must have another way of testing the warning light...

IIRC You dont need one aslong as u have a button or something to test the lamp for the brake fluid warning. Hand brake is an easy way of testing the lamp.
