Bad day...

Been delayed by late parts so anticipated SVA in July ended up slipping into September with holidays etc. - Wanted so bad to get it on the road for a few dry days before the 6 months of crap weather that we normally get.

So - was on push to SVA on Monday with some big jobs still to do - Was a little worried so spoke to them mid week re: slipping it back a few days and they told me that they (Birmingham) are suddenly solid until end Oct - so went for it...

All hung on getting some vital exhaust tigging done - Hired a rig and the idiots delivered it without all the cables - Ended up getting tied up with call centres and two depots blaming each other - I went thermonuclear and told them to stick their inverter where the flux don't run.

Took a deep breath and have decided that it's just not worth rushing it through - I've done the job properly and proud of what I've achieved so far. Going to plead with VOSA on Monday to allow me to reschedule even though it's strictly a no show - If they don't play ball them guessing that I've just wasted £150.

I'll get it on the road some time over the next two months and then spend the remaining time to Spring tweaking, polishing and playing so that it's nothing but fly splattered grinning in 2007.

Morals of the story:

1.) Don't make any decisions until you have the bits in your paw, they've been fitted and tested.

2.) Treble all your time estimates.

3.) Emigrate somewhere warm and dry...

Isn't it only a £50 charge for a no show.

If it is and you are expecting to lose £150 then that puts you £100 up (if you're an opimist)

Not such a bad day then...

Good Luck,

John

If they wont let you slip then go anaway, i was in excatluy the same position with the Caterost. At least if you turn up you will leave with a definative list, At Shrewsbury Mark was great and gave me loads of advice on the few bits i hadnt finished so that i sailed through on the retest. Hay £150 is £150 at least get some use out of it.

I was hoping for a september SVA last year. My exhust was late being delivered (by 4 or 5 months) and then I couldn't get the emissions right. I got my number plates on the 30th of december.

Dress for the weather and those dry winter days can be a lot of fun.

What exhaust work needs doing? Can you not borrow an exhaust from someone local just for SVA? You could even turn up at SVA, knowing it's gonna fail and go through the procedure. At least when it fails you'll know exactly what needs doing for the re-test and I'm sure they could fit you in for that quite quickly. I'd say go for it.........

Failing all the above, send them a polite letter when you're ready, explaining that you can attend SVA at short notice should a cancellation occur and to bear you in mind.

Whatever you decide, good luck.

Phil

Thanks all for the encouragement - After sleeping on it feel good about the decision as was putting myself under a huge amount of stress to sort this (and at the end of the day I started this for two reasons - to enjoy the build and to enjoy driving something that I'd built).

As I have a gap in the exhaust I can't really get to the centre (not without deafening most of east Birmingham!) - I'll let you know their verdict.

£50 for the effective no-show - Guys were v. helpful and entirely sympathetic - I'm not the first...
