sva not required?
I am not building a locost, I hope you will forgive me! My project is a modified hillclimb/sprint Alfasud Sprint. I want to replace the front chassis
legs and inner wings with a welded tubular spaceframe. This obviously means that the original monocoque is modified and as such the car constitutes a
radically altered vehicle and would require an sva and re-registering. However, I also read on the vosa site that the sva does not apply to vehicles
over 10 years old and as my car is well over 10 years old can I just do what I like as long as I can convince an Mot examiner that the modifications
do not seriously weaken the structure of the car?

I'm sure as long as it is well executed you'll have no trouble with an MOT examiner. Personally I'd just do it and take it along.
Assume the rest of the car will be modified so it'll be in keeping. They'll be more interested in there being no rust, which on an
Alfasud would be a novelty!

Second the above
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

Alfasud hill climber
Great little car, had a 1982 Ti .
are you keeping the flat four, and what would you expect to get from that little gem.

boxers rule!
the whole point of building the car is to have somewhere to put that engine! Mine is an 1800cc (overbored 1712) 16v version with steel bottom end ,
forged pistons etc. I am looking for over 210bhp @9000rpm.
as for getting it through an mot I don't have any worries about that. I am looking for reassurance that my interpretation of the sva rules, with
regard to age of the car, is correct.

Wow, 210 bhp/9000
Must sound cool at those revs.
Is it fuel injected or sticking with twin down droughts?
That would be an ideal power supply for a mid engined lowcost.
Just chuck it in the back. The engine gearbox layout would work a treat and with inboard discs it would save on sprung weight.
Youve got me thinking of another project!!!!!

its injected, jenvey tapered itbs and a megasquirt. Unfortunately it doesn't make any noise yet as its still in bits! I've been collecting
s/h parts from racers for a few years now and I'm getting close to having everything I need to start. The big disadvantage of using the 16v
boxer as a competition engine is the cost of parts. Everything has to be custom made and consequently costs about half as much again as more common
engines. Fortunately for me there are other nutters out there prepared to buy the stuff new and then sell it to me when they're finished with
it!

I would'nt have thought you need to go anywhere near an SVA?
I think radically altered would be a bit more along face value lines, ie changing the body altogether. If you changed an engine, even for a completely
different make, I would'nt think that was radically altered even?
Just my thoughts...

Its not the engine its the monocoque alterations.
