SVA success
It was a successful SVA today.
The day started early, we (Mike as support in his tin top) and I left mine at 06.30 for the SVA station some 30 miles away.
We arrived 45 minutes later after a nice cold run for me (a nice warm one for Mike) and filling up with fuel.
The test started at 08.15 VIN checked no problem, engine bay wiring etc checked again no problem.
Then for the dreaded emissions, these had been set up last Saturday and were fine but weren’t today, for some reason they were totally out. I
explained how we had got them within the required parameters on Sat using the laptop and He asked “Have you got the laptop here?” with all the
excitement at the start of the day ( Or was it fear) I had forgot to take the laptop.
Mike offered to go back and collect it. It was hinted that if we could get the laptop to the centre by the end of the test we would be given time to
correct the emissions.
So off Mike set.
Next the internal and external radiuses, Seat belts, Seats, Lights etc. Then it was up on the lift to have the underneath checked (Even got an
excellent, from the examiner for that one) Next was the brake tests again a pass on all three tests. I was asked if I had fitted roll pins to the lock
nuts on the bias bar, My answer was No I thought I would wait to find if the bar was set correctly first and then drill and fit the pins. I was
allowed to do this at the end of the test.
Next we were on the speed test again another pass, however the Speedo reading compared to the actual speed was a bit out Speedo said 30MPH Actual
22MPH Speedo said 70MPH Actual 63MPH. I was asked if I wanted to spend a bit of time re-calibrating the Speedo to get it closer to the actual speed
which I did.
70MHP on the Speedo is now actually 67MPH.
After tea break
It was then time for the will the suspension collapse test the car was driven at some speed and the brake applied as in an emergency braking test. We
assumed this was a brake test and in part it is, but was told after that this was once carried out on a car and the front suspension failed and one
wheel fell off, so since then this test is there to test the strength of the front suspension mounts.
Next came the self centre, mirrors and noise level (100db @ 4800 rpm) again all passes.
Corrective action time.
The laptop was connected to the Megasquirt and gas analyser fitted to the exhaust after a time which seemed like a life. we got the emissions to the
required 1997 spec and all was done.
The roll pins were fitted and the MAC was presented to a very happy man.
I would very much like to thank all of you for your help and advise and the several parts I’ve been given,
Especially Mike who has done more than I would ever expect from anyone.
And in true SVA fashion it rained all the way home

funny enough I've been taking pictures from the start up until about a month ago and none since.
It doesn't look its best at the moment with all the dirt from the 30 miles in the rain,but I will get out there in the next couple of days and
take some pictures.

Congratulations
I guess that you took it to Norwich, I have SVAd a couple of cars there and found them to be very helpful as you obviously did.

Nice one Piddy! Was the tester Dennis? he tested mine and I got the impression from the start that he wanted to pass the car if possible . Probably
told you after the test you could fit the "proper" steering wheel

Well done...
Start by driving sensibly so you get to know your car... its probably not like anything you have ever driven before.
PS.. Addenbrookes Hospital and Bury General do NOT do corrective cosmetic surgery, and certainly not on the NHS.
I enquired, as whenI first got the Viento on the road, I thought I was going to need a "Grin Reduction" Operation to lessen the stretch
marks on my face
Brill mate, well done and enjoy.
Watch out on bends, and too much throttle... the back end steps out very easily and quickly too
