odometer required for SVA?
I know for SVA a speedo is required but what about an odometer (i.e. how many miles done)? Not seen it mentioned.
And what about MOT? What mileage would they put on the certificate? And insurance if limited mileage policy?

there goes my idea of using one of my push bike magnetic speedo's. I got my beachbuggy through its MOT twice without any speedo at all and ran
it for over 2 years without one (no one ever noticed), so I'm not sure if an odometer is a SVA requirement. My bike ones do tell you how many
miles you've done, does that count??

Speedo and odometer are very different things. You don't need a speedo for the MOT, or rather if you have one it doesn't have to be
working. Or even remotely accurate. Not sure about the odometer for MOT though.

Nope. However, you do need a Speedometer (obviously) which usually incorporates an Odometer. If you fit a re-settable odo, you may be able to fool the
insurance company for the first year, ie, Pay for a limited mileage policy and then reset your odometer when you've reached the limit but
remember you have to declare your mileage every year on limited mileage policies.

One other point. Though it sounds like you could use a pushbike speedo most of these do not light up at night, no doubt due to the extra battery
drain. I was thinking of using those funny little blue LED dash lights you get in halfords to do the task.

I've seen an small light in a housing pointing at a bike speedo pass SVA as suitable illumination. Same theory as rear number plate light.
Personally I'd go for green though
I've not tried it, but it might be possible to get into the housing and use LEDs to side light the LCD in the same way a lot of mobile phones
illuminate.

I'm sure I've read about non-resettable odometers in the past.
It was the reason some pushbike computers were not suitable.
