Registration
Before the sva I tried to get an inspection by the dvla and couldnt till i passed the sva so I passed sva last week then dvla told me to fill out the
neccesary forms get the car insured bring the cover note , all the paperwork and money and they would register it. Went to wimbledon to register it
and they said they couldnt because it wasnt inspected. they can get it inspected in 3-4 weeks , by this time the insurance would have gone past the
30 day limit of being insured on the chassis number , so they cancel the insurance with no refund at all. £200 down the drain . What a shower of sh--.
They all are

Someone on here took their insurers to task on the thirty day thing, And won I seem to remember.
It is unfair to say the least.
Have a go at them.

Welcome to the sick and twisted world of the DVLA
This worked for me....
Put it all in writing.
Find out who is dealing with your registration at the local office (you can do this by ringing DVLA Swansea and byatching until they tell
you!!!)...
Write to the person dealing with your case explaining what you were advised (by whom if possible, certainly when and where) and send it to them
explaining that you are planning on accessing the DVLA compensation scheme for unnecessary costs due to their incompitence (info re this on their
website).... IE you're going to get back your insurance off them...
Wait by the phone.
I was in the same situation, did exactly this, and after many frantic phone calls from DVLA local office, got my number plate a week later- the
insurance co (A Flux) were quite happy BTW to extend the cover for a couple of weeks once I explained what was happening ie that registration was
going through, it was just taking time....
Amongst the many things that DVLA local offices are is afraid of the official complaints procedure.
Give it a go

Hi, can you get an earlier appointment if you take the car to the DVLA. They told me at Nottingham that inpections were taking a month, but i made an
appointment the next day by arranging to take it to them. Inspection took about 2mins as it was hissing it down with rain.
Alternatively talk to the insurance company and explain the situation.

Chris

Dvla at wimbledon dont do the inspection at wimbledon you have to have a home visit. I explained this to the insurance people A/Flux and they said
you can only have 30 days on the chassis number. So ive canceled the insurance within 14 days, its cost me £26 and when its been inspected i'll
insure it again. i supose its worth £26 not to have to ring them again complaining talking to a load of idiots!
By the way its worth £26 for anybody that wants to drive to sva just insure it for the full amount then cancel it within 14 days.

I had a similar problem - the insurer was ING thro the broker Adrian Flux. They WILL extend the 30 days but only up to a max of 45 IIRC. I had to
cancel the policy (I was just within the 14 day cancellation period) & reinsure it once all the paperwork was ready to be sorted & the
inspection done - all post SVA stuff. All in all cost me about £45 for cancelling etc but a lot better than losing the whole years insurance.
Asking the DVLA etc to speed up is like asking the world to slow down a bit so you can get off - no chance!
Hope you get it all sorted.
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

Des,
Brighton DVLA guy was great, they inspect at Brighton on a wed morning I think.
You can legally drive the car to a booked DVLA appointment but if you go to Brighton then might be better to trailer it, it so happens I have a
trailer that could be of use!
Best bit is that the inspector at Brighton is a very nice looking young lady!!!
Rich.

Wimbledon are painfull and change like the wind, they told me (although 3 years ago) i could drive or trailer the car to to them if pre booked and
didnt like to do home visits if they couild help it
I got a home visit 10 days after test pass, yet others have had there inspection before SVA trhough wimbledon VRO.
Basically its a government office so there is not really any chance of them being efficient is there

My local VLO was Maidstone and then (Oct 2005) they did inspections at the office after SVA.
As a separate comment, I also insured through Adrian Flux, had to cancel my first SVA appointment because of a car problem, and Flux refused point
blank, even after several phone calls, to extend the 30 day limit. I scraped in through SVA and VLO inspection/registration on the 29th day!

I got 6 weeks from Flux.... it seems they change the rules as often as the DVLA!! Perhaps it depends which insurer they've sold you on to?!?!?

MSM were great, 21 day note to start with, automatically renewed. I didn't even have to phone it just arrived in the post.
Reading DVLA were the same, they wouldn't inspect till after SVA and they get the VOSA station at newbury to inspect it!

As Humbug says! I stopped in at Maidstone on the way back from SVA (taking a chance - well it was last working day before Christmas). Told me
I'd need an appointment, booked there and then for the day they reopened in the new year.
Drove there, 5 min inspection, 20 minute wait for paperwork to be checked, picked up RFL, plate entitlement form and got plates on the way home!
Easy and you're half hour from Maidstone (assuming you live in Sidcup!)

Just had enough in my wallet for registration and tax, came back with paperwork a train ticket and about 30p in my pocket (nothing changes there
then)
Oh and thats the last time you see the hard earned MAC so scan it and frame it

Try Footman james next time. They gave me 30 days to get the car registered, couldnt get it done due to Oxford DVLA being busy, insurance ran out,
phoned them up and they sent another cover note through to cover me for 30 days! Was easy.
