Chopping and welding steering column?

I need to add a dogleg to my sierra steering column so it avoids the engine and joins up with my escort rack.....

I have a couple of old columns all with usefull bits on them..

What are the legalitys behind me chopping up all of the columns and welding them back together to give one to do the job?

Obviously I will sleeve the rods where I join them etc...so its a sencible job..

Oh..and I havnt done SVA yet

I had to make mine go round the bend, so bought an additional bit of bar and welded u/j's on (no splines!)

SVA man quite happy with it, and so am I.

Not sure I'd recommend rejoining a shortened pieces together, rather cut them to length, and stick a u/j on, the repeat.
