When to notify DVLA - Scrapping the donor
OK
My donor has been stripped, and its now in several bits in the garage. The vin plate I have, and the number stamped on the chassis was destroyed
(rusted through on the sill and floopan..!)
Now that the shell has gone to the great scrappy in the sky, is it worthwhile telling the DVLA its been scrapped, or should I wait til I fill in the
V55 for the registration...? Its on a SORN.
Cheers
Peter

SORN is correct for now.
When you register the car you surrender the donor V5 at that time. DVLA handle the transfer for you when they issue new reg. if you scrap now you rish
not getting age related if that is what you want.
The donor V5 serves as a receipt for the donor when completing the DVLA forms.
If you are unlucky (like me) then they might not scrap off the donor correctly and you may get a SORN reminder for it. Keep your paperwork handy just
in case as you may need to SORN again and then send in a letter explaining what has happened.

I disposed of un-wanted bits of the shell for my donor ages ago. I kept the important bits - the like the 6" square thats got the VIN# and the
ford chassis plate.
Easy way to make sure i own the vehicle and i keep it sorned
although i did ask the police of the legality of what i've done. Eventually the traffic police man said (it was a long conversation) he
understood my intentions where good but couldn't categorically state what id done was legal or illegal! Apart from this conversation he'd
never know what i've done and therefore was unlikely to ever get prosecuted.

DVLA take the V5 off you when you register the kit car and scrap the donor car on their database. On occasion it's been known for this not to
happen and you to get a SORN reminder, in this case you give DVLA a ring, inform them of their mistake, and everything should be fine.
