Fluid disposal

This might sound like a bit of a stupid question but, how should i get rid of the fluids (engine oil, fearbox oil, diff oil etc)?

How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Your local friendly council recycling centre. Look for one that takes used oils. Try Google for your nearest!

Your local council tip should have a waste oil collection point. Put it in your old oil cans and take it there.

Build a Waste oil burner, and heat the garage with it in the winter.

As above i take mine to the council tips. They have an oil collection unit at most of the new recycling centres now.

Not sure about antifreeze - it is horrendously nasty stuff so please be careful with it - some of you will recall i lost my dog after he drank a small qty that leaked onto garage floor.

I thought you needed a license to burn waste oil in this country? And a whole poo load of old oil!

I dont think so , but i did once work for a company where the boss was to tight to get proper heating , we built a workshop heater from a large water tank fitted with a door and a grate .To start with we used to burn wood or sawdust soaked in old oil, one winter we were particularly cold and had nothing much to burn so ended up burning old tyres in it.The council appeared after a few days to complain as the old folks home across the road was suffering with black smut everywhere. It did get very warm though and worked a treat, the trainee had a bit of a job getting the wire out each morning though.
