A Couple of Basic SVA questions

All,

A couple of basic SVA questions.

I am about to stamp my chassis number onto the chassis. Can someone please confirm that it must be on the offside (drivers?) side of the chassis in a permanent location? I am going to put it onto a steel plate, then weld this plate in position. Is this ok?

Does the fuel filler neck need to be restriced to only allow an unleaded petrol filler station nozzle to fit?

Cheers in advance.

Not sure about the VIN,

but I think you only need a restrictor if you have a CAT?

Ok,

I have no cat as my engine is of a 'G' reg vintage. So a restrictor is not required.

cheers for that,

Be aware that stamping the chassis tends to distort the square section . If you have a thicker plate such as a diff mounting , fillet etc that may be where to stamp number.

There is no stipulation of where the VIN is positioned as long as it is readable by the tester/dvla. To save crushed tubes when using a punch, a strip of stamped metal welded to your chassis is acceptable.
As a security measure I stamped a second vin and then filled and painted it.
In the event of identity theft/change I would be able to prove it is mine.

I stamped a piece of steel and welded on the chassis [passenger side ] as suggested. No probs at SVA.

When I received my chassis number from Northampton DVLA they specified that it must be stamped on the chassis (I welded a stamped plate on) and that it should be on the driver's side.

Looks like another one of those DVLA "varies from office to office" situations, so probably best to ask.
Nottingham SVA were happy with a rivetted aluminium plate.

I stamped VIN onto steel plate and welded to middle front of chassis. Only just readable with nosecone on. No problem with SVA.

I also wrote the chassis number all over the place with permanent marker on various components etc - most hidden (eg inside face of engine bracket before fitting to block). At least then if it got stolen and stripped there is half a chance of identifying it.

I also made an engraved ali plate for bulkhead and engraved post code onto it.
