Daylight use only
I have read somewhere that if you have a 'Daylight use only MOT' you dont need headlights.
Seeing as I won't be doing any night driving at all (or any driving myself, due to insurance), I am a student with little money and have a very
stretched kit car budget, I was hoping that someone could confirm this for me?
Also, does this type of MOT, if it exists, affect any other areas of lighting?
One more thought, will the SVA test the car as a daylight only vehicle, like the MOT? Or would I need to present the daylight use only MOT certificate
to them (provided I had passed of course)? Or would I have to fit lamps?

AFAIK the "daylight only" MOT is still available and requires that all lights fitted work. Although the only lights you actually need for
the test are the brake lights.
I'm pretty sure the powers that be stopped offering the "daylight only" SVA test, although I could be (probably) wrong

MOT version certainly , to cater for trials type bikes.

Is it just the brake lights needed - ie don't you need indicators either?

Or fog lights? If it gets foggy most people turn their headlights on. Sounds daft to have a day only car. What if you break down at dusk?

You will, unfortunately, have to have all your lights for SVA, afterwards you could remove lights & go for "daylight only" use, but
it's not going to be of any benefit unless you are intending to borrow lights to get thro' SVA. As has been said, bit unfortunate if you
get caught in bad traffic etc. & are then unable to make it home in time b4 dark.

IMO it's more effort to not have lights.
