Obtaining V5

Hi Guys,

I bought a chassis and job lot of bits and bobs off of ebay. Anyway I noticed that I have the reg plates, diff, steering rack, engine (which I have now sold) and loads of other bits from a Mark II Escort (all from the same one which I have the VRM for). Is there anyway I can obtain the V5 for the car or see any details about the V5?

I want this so that I can get the age related plate you see

Cheers,

O

I just did a check on the DVLA website and found this info

Does that mean I might be able to apply for the V5?

The enquiry is complete

The vehicle details for *** ***T (Removed for safety) are:

Vehicle Colour YELLOW
Vehicle Type Approval null
The information contained on this page is correct at the time of enquiry.
Vehicle Excise Duty Rate for vehicle
6 Months Rate £99.00
12 Months Rate £180.00

You need the name of vehicle, chassis and engine number plus the colour. ALL sections of the V62 document you send to DVLA to get the V5 must be filled in. I looked into this when looking at a Dutton.

If you have the sellers contact details he may be able to help. Was that chassis on the road? It it was theres a chance the chassis number is on the chassis somewhere.

Fingers crossed

Na' just all the bits were there. No chassis It was a project that he stopped sometime ago. I have emailed him and I will wait for a reply. Fingers crossed he has the V5! If so I am laughing, if not then it would be a shame.

Cheers for the replies.

If that chassis has not been on the road it won't have a v5. It will need to go through SVA.

You need to be a bit carefull.
I scrapped a mk 1 escort and used the Vin and logbook from it for my donor, the bare shell was sold on as for spares only but unfortunately my mate that sold it left the rear number plate in the boot but told the buyer that the vin had been used and it was a shell for spares only. The buyer tried to get the V5 by applying for it and to cut a long story short caused me some grief with the Dvla and the other person a visit by the police.

Blimey!!!! Cheers for the info! lol.

I have both plates and I spoke to the previous owner who said the shell was scrapped a long time ago.

The DVLA check shows it was last Taxed back in 1999.

Maybe I will have to leave it then Anyone know a good place where I can buy a cheap and wreaked Escort Mark II for it's plate and Vin? lol.

You can send for the V5 using the registration number only without any problems as long as you have title to the document. There is now a charge for the service unless you meet certain criteria . It would be more legal than buying another for sole use of the identity.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Hi Guys, sorry to butt in.

Like Omni I too have just bought a partial built locost off ebay.
It has a 1.6 pinto in and what looks like Escort axle (narrow).

I was thinking if I could get hold of a scrap Capri with V5 ( Did they fit a 1.6 pinto in Capri's???)
I could pass the axle off as a capri. rebuild the engine off the Capri and put that in for now till I have the age related plate.

Does this sound OK ?

ORRRRRRR

Can I go to a scrappy and find a Capri with no doc's and get DVLA to allow me to use it as doner car and again get age related plates.

Hope this makes sense.

i wouldnt risk lying to an SVA inspector, sods law he will be an old ford expert and spot its wrong. You could maybe try the 'thats what i was told' routine, but its dubious!

Cheers JoelP

On further investigation looks like a Capri axle anyway.

But I also know now I need V5 / SORN so it looks like a Q plate then.
