VIN - making your own
Are there some letters / numbers that I am not allowed to use?
As far as I can tell from searching I can use a mix of letters and numbers upto a max of 17.
I am planning to pop into the local DVLA office next week to check if its OK..
Then fill in my SVA Forms!!!!!!

Old Luego gave me mine, might be worth giving Ben a ring? Just remembered there is at least two Viento's running around with the same vin!

I presume that a kit comes with a number.
If you're go have enough points (conversion) you can use the donor VIN?
At last I presume that the DVLA, VCA or someone can give you an unique number?
ISO standard says no "I" and "Q" or "O" allowed. they could easily be mixed up with "1"
"9" or "0"

The VIN should be exactly 17 characters - not 'up to 17 characters'.
I wrote to my local DVLA and offered them my proposed VIN - they wrote back and confirmed that it was OK.

Only if you retain the donor's chassis.
As I understand it, since you are the manufacturer you can make up your own 17 character VIN. Some DVLA offices prefer to issue you with one and I
imagine all will issue one if you ask. As others have said, you cant use letters O, Q or Z.
There are 33^17 = 65,273,511,648,264,442,971,824,673 unique VIN numbers so the chances of you randomly choosing one already in use are quite slim!

Called in at the local DVLA and they said the number I had created was fine so now just need to fill in the SVA forms.

no it is not; (I posted about thhis but cannot find my post ). Minimum is 9, max is 17 - have letter from DVLA to prove it 
FYI mine is 13 long.
