Is this SVA ok?

Hi all,

I'm now going over the car with a fine tooth comb to check it's OK for SVA.

I wanted to check if this is ok for sva this is my current boss, on a collapsible sierra column, does the boss need to colapse too

Mountney steering wheel pad will be enough, probably wont pass without the pad.

Bad news being you can't buy the pads anymore (rumour has it the mould was wrecked and wasn't being fixed/remade).

i can only comment ref my SVA experience at Gosforth. i fitted aftermarket wheel for retest (long story) and had to fit collapsible boss. He already said that if i brought the car back without one he would fail me.

That is not to say that others have passed with same boss as in pic though - may be a regional interpretation.

Mine's same as that and all I had to do was cover the 6 screw heads.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Can you not leave the Sierra wheel on for SVA?

As long as you have angle changes in your UJ's or a collapsable colomn, then it should pass without the boss

i had angled UJ's and std Sierra collapsible Boss and SVA man still insisted on collapsible boss if i fitted anything other than std Ford type approved steering wheel. As said might be a local thing so could be worth checking your local VOSA station for definitive answer.

The reason i was given is that the full steering system is type approved and replacing any part of it negates that - hence aftermarket collapsible boss needed. I have however heard of other places getting away with std mountney type boss as long as the wheel itself complies with the rules. My man also said the wheel itself cannot have slots on the spokes and the external rads must comply (2.5mm i think but check the book).

Mine passed at Mitcham with just two direction changes on UJ's. I even pointed it out and Michael said that either that or collapsable column was fine.
Strange how different testers see things.
