Some b@stard has hijacked our Ebay account
As above. The gits got all my information, and I've got two things for sale ending in the next day - a bit worried about the tw@t telling them
to send cash to a different address.
Any ideas?

email the bidders and tell them whats happened.
Thats providing you havnt had the password changed - obviously change it if you can. And if you use that password for other accounts......

Should have made myself clearer!
Done all the above (cheers BTW).
Update - ebay got back to us and cancelled some listings and purchases - password now changed.
Now more concerned that there may be a bug or two picking up the info on my pc at home.
I've got normal dial up (yawn) with no virus software to speak of.
In idiot speak, any way to check and clear the pc of this sort of crap.
THEN, any idea on how to upload a free virus protector, until we can subscribe to one of these monthly updated ones (and whats the best value for
money one)?

Adaware or Spybot S&D or both. Type it in google. Freeware programs that find most stuff and give you the option of deleting it. Careful if you
check the registry though as you can easily delete some critical stuff. If you have keyloggers installed they should find them for you.

I've got AVG and stop-scan, both free and work fine, updates as well i think. I prefer AVG, dunno why, looks better. I use both on auto just in
case.
Google it, really easy.
when they've done their checks, if they turn up with stuff i don't think they delete it (not sure), so i delete it all myself.
email me if you want, i'm no expert but i had that same problem a month ago.

I've worked through getting him on a diet of virus scans, tracking cookie deleters and firewalls...
Hopefully he'll be ok now.
I'm sure we'll all be updated on the situation...

Cheers guys, as usual.
I now have AVG antivirus, and Zone Alert firewall. Richard (Metal Hippy) is going to walk me through it over the weekend.
I may well email you Joel if the Hippy confuses me too much!
I may go for more software if needed in the future.

Are you on ADSL? If so, buy one of those router/firewall boxes. Wonderful bit of kit, full NAT router and firewall plus ADSL modem built in. FAR
better than running any kind of firewall on your PC.
If you've got an old PC laying around (anything 486 upwards) you can build your own for dialup, cable or even ADSL if you are a cheapskate!

only problem with that is you have to have a ethernet modem, won't work with a usb modem that most isp's supply...

PCI ADSL modems are where its at, waiting till i move in November then i'm gonna go broadband

Most of the units have a new modem built in to them so you can throw the ISP provided one away.

We have just reached the threshold for BT to think about updating our exchange to broadband and we are going to subscribe when it happens. I want to
connect 2 computers to the line, would it be easier to set them up as a network or use one of these adsl routers?

connecting two computers to the internet on a network is a hassle as only one machine is directly on the net.
I have a device called a router, many companies make em - mine is from SMC.
I spent 100 quid on it and its well worth it.
It does the following :
shares the cable modem between 4 pcs (but I only have 3)!
acts as a printer sharer
acts as a hub
acts as a firewall!
Using some online virus attack diagnostics, my setup came up as 'stealth mode' - ie any attack probes dont see me.
when I firs got broadband, and the experience of another guy at work, was that you get attacked within a week.
the router has stopped all that, and with norton antivirus, i regularly see viruses getting stopped.
That msbalster thing got sent to me 3 times - none got thro.
anyone with a cable / adsl setup without a firewall is commiting computer suicide, and a virus checker is way close to essential.
Some of these things can monitor keyboard strokes and send them to their 'master'. Software there can look for keywords like ebay or
visa....

You didn't happen to respond to an Ebay email from Admin a short while ago did you ?
It had all the right looking details and reply address and asked the right questions BUT it was a scam!
This one did the rounds about a month ago.
