side repeaters

If i was to get these mirrors

Would they replace the standard side repeater for SVA?

Cheers
Ben

You couldn't pwn your way out of a wet paper bag, with "PWN ME!!" written on it, from the "pwned take-away" which originally contained one portion of chicken tikka pwnsala and the obligatory free pwnpadom.

they look really smart and fairly cheap too, think they should pass ok. as long as they've got enough rear vision and haven;t got a sharp surround.

by the looks of them,no,the repeater needs to be seen from most places along the side, looks like you can only see them from the front

I doubt they would pass I'm afraid. Side repeaters are to be viewed from the read / side not front / side.

See here for wotsit.

You might be able to use them as the front indicators though?

I agree, I don't think they would pass either. I have a pair of similar mirrors on the Phoenix but I also fitted additional repeaters to the side of the car.

WARNING
The SVA tester came very close to failing my car because of the number of indicator lights. In addition to the mirror indicators I also had a pair near the headlights. And then there were the repeaters... He let it go but it was close. I had not realised that you could have too many indicators.

Just thought I'd pass this on. Hope it helps.

John

You could have the mirror lights permanently lit if they only show to the front, like the trailer side marker lights on artics for the SVA purposes.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

I sell similar units (quite a bit cheaper!), but I always recommend them to be in addition to existing side repeaters.

I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours. http://shop.ebay.co.uk/furoreproducts/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1

more importantly... I would very much doubt whether those mirrors meet the size/shape requirements for SVA as they are an unusual shape... I would check first!

is there mention in SVA manual about side repeater lamp wattage?

i.e. could a couple of orange LED's be used?

There is no mention regarding wattage of any lights afaik. I have used LEDs on all of my lights (except headlights) and Mr SVA loved them. As long as they are deemed to be 'of sufficient brightness' they should pass - even a 21W indicator bulb can fail if the reflector is inneffective or even too effective (ask Flak about that one)

Cheers,
Raz
