Height of lights, existing steering column and CAT?
I'll be honest I was hoping to get away with having an SVA test, BUT as you've all (well nearly all) pointed out I realise that I'm
going to have to bite the bullet and have one.
I've a few concerns mainly:
I've cut at least 4" off the floor, lowering the car 4", lowering all the standard lighting by 4"
I've utilised the existing steering column, not a collapsible one.
I wasn't intending to put a Cat on the exhaust system.
I know I could probably get away with just an MOT and get insured but as people have been telling me it's all well until something goes wrong,
police, insurers etc…

Regarding the steering column, IIRC the later classic Minis used a column with an MGF wheel / airbag.
Failing that it should be easy enough to fabricate a two piece column with a universal joint.

i have a 2 piece column with a universal joint from ralley design.
Is that enough? I thought it had to be collapsable?

SVA Annex 1 requirements for obligatory lights
Annex 1 requirements for obligatory lights
It says:
Dipped beam headlamps minimum 500mm from ground level, is that to any point of the headlight or the very bottom?
Direction indicators minimum 350mm from ground level, again is that to any point of the headlight or the very bottom?
Either way I’d have to jack the car up 100mm, different shocks!!!! Bug –ger!!!!!

The SVA Manual gives the marks where the measurements are taken but I think you will find that it will be almost from the centre of the lens to the
ground. I was really worried about this with the Phoenix until I read the manual properly.
