fitting a windscreen

i am planning on following the chris gibbs design (which doesnt have a windscreen as standard).

i was wondering where i would stand if i passed the SVA without a screen but at a later date decided maybe i'd been a complete idiot and want to fit one. would i need to notify anyone, if so who?

hope you can help

Just SVA without and then fit it afterwards no fuss or drama and you don't need to tell a soul

don't forget windscreen wipers unless you want to take it off for MOTs Also a good excuse to put a heater in for de-misting!

put simply no, no need to tell anyone.....but & there's always a but, if you do fit a screen that can not be folded flat like say...like a Jeep when it rains and the police see you driving about with no wipers peering through the haze , then expect to get your butt kicked.

But.. Do remember to ensure you have leave enough space for wipers/motor/de-mist vents/heater. Retro fitting can be a pain if you have taken the space up with other stuff..

You pass SVA, get the car on the road, first MOT is 3 years after SVA At registration the DVLA local office might try and tell you that an MOT is needed immediately after SVA. They're wrong and if you quibble they'll back down. If you do go for an MOT before registration you'll be on the MOT computer system and then you'll likely have to do one annually even before 3 years....

It might be worth telling your insurers that you've fitted a screen (or doing it rapidly between SVA and insuring for the road). Other than that's there's no problems with putting on a screen after SVA (in fact it makes perfect sense).

One thing I would say is though- you'll very likely need wipers and a demister. The screen on a Se7en is almost vertical so there's little airflow to move rain droplets off the screen- ie you're pretty much dependant on wipers though I think some people here have used various "rain-off" screen wipes / sprays. In addition, even without a roof on I've had problems with misting up when driving at speed. Not nice!!!

as well as the screen i was planning to fit all of the bits to go with it otherwise i don't think it'd be much use anyway.

one of the reasons im asking now is so that if i do chose not to fit one to begin with, whether there is much point me leaving space for the wiper and demister system should i wish to fit it later. (basically is the option there, if so i should plan to fit it)

you're responses have been very helpfull, i'm sure in the future i'll be coming to you all with lots more questions
