Mot and tax renewal

Ok guys a brief bit of background. I bought a ready made MK indy 2 years ago, it was 18 months old when i got it. The guy who sold it to me gave me a new MOT on it. its on a age related plate.

Last year got it MOTed myself all went fine, i got it done on the 22nd march where the TAX ran out at the end of march.

Now my problem.
I just got my Tax renewal from the DVLA and near the bottom it notes
"this vehicle requires an appropriate MOT cert from 29/04/08"
My paper copy of my current MOt shows that it runs out on the 22/03/08

Whats going on?

Does this mean i can tax it (when i have renewed my insurance) without needing the MOT att he end of march?

Confused.tw@

Sorry about my spelling, im an engineer and only work in numbers.

Just sounds like a date mix up. Tax it online if you want to avoid a complicated discussion at the post office.

I would say that you didn't need to take the car for an MOT for 3 years after it passed the SVA. Therefore it's now coming to the end of that period. You didn't need to do your last MOT's so they're not relevant?

If it helps...I did exactly the same thing too! Took my KC for MOT's it didn't ever need! Passed each one with flying colours but still....

I think it should be made crystal clear each and every rule surrounding this. It's not - especially to the buyers of built and SVA'd cars!

I may be wrong of course but that's what I'm led to believe.

If I'm wrong I'll blame the Mexicans.

As far as I am aware you can get an MOT done before the current one runs out, and then its valid for a full year from when your existing MOT runs out. This could be why you have a date in April - if the MOT has been done in the previous month at some stage.

I believe if you take a car for an MOT, then its in the system and you will then have to get one done every year. I believe if you are going to get the car "MOT'd" prior to SVA then you should simply ask the tester to give the car an MOT level check without putting it through the computer. Personally i've always prefered to sacrifice the cost of the MOT for the peace of mind of an experienced mechanic giving the car a good going over.

It IS possible to have 13 months MoT on a car. You can take the vehicle for a new MoT up to, but no more than, 1 month before the current MoT runs out. As long as you take the current certificate with you, you can have the new cert to include the remaining days from the old cert.
Strangely, you cannot do this if the old cert has more than a month left to run! For example, if you MoT'd your car and then decided to sell it 2 months later, so took it for another MoT, it could only have 12 months. If you took the car to have it MoT's after 11 months, you could have 13 months on it!!
I hope thats cleared things up.
Although it hasn't answered to topic question.......

I'm going with the "cock up with the dates" group.
