a sound measuring meter is place in a specific positon relative to the exhaust; believe this is defned in the the SVA manual.

If the car has twin side pipes, like a Cobra replica say, then the postion is different. Again in the manual.

When applying for SVA you need to state rpm of max power - and need to run engine a 2/3 (?) of this furing noise test.

again, this is in the manual - have I mentioned that?

The tester may have a hand held tacho that clips to a plug lead, as far as I know a rev counter is not a SVA requirement.

The tester had a magnetic rev counter that clipped on to the frame and measured the vibration!

He got so pissed off with trying to get it to work that he told me it would pass if I put decebel inserts in.

Lo and behold next time it passed!
