Eek! SVA date 8th!

Got a call today confirming my SVA date as 8th May (my birthday) @ Norwich... only thing is they only do morning appointmnets so i have to be there by 8am

SWMBO is not impressed, I told her we need to leave @5am to be sure!

AND... the car is nowhere near ready!

Loads of work to do in the next 2 weeks...
1, Brakes still not working - possibly just bleeding
2, Cut the rear wing edges off last night - need to widen them
3, Engine not tuned - runs like a dog
4, speedo not working - let alone calibrated!
5, bonnet not properly fitted
6, loads of triv jobs that need doing like fitting nut covers etc

I wrote one - then had to write another list so i knew which lists to worry about

My main worry at the moment is that the car has never been on the road so i don't know how the engine is runnign really... I have the MSNS setup with just the base map! until i get it moving properly I can't even begin to sort that one! and I can't get it moving until the brakes work

[This is just the Panic setting in!]

Don't panic!....

When you are calm....start at one end of the car, listing all the jobs that still need to be done..however trivial........

Work through the list....crossing off as you go....
and good luck with the test!

BTW it's my birthday on the 8th May too!

Good luck!!!

Write a big list and try and make sure the car is ready with a week to go. It probably won't be but at least it'll give some tinker time in the week before the test.

Speedo calibration is relatively easily done en route to SVA if you've got access to a GPS device (or even during SVA if the tester is nice and friendly).

Driving an unmarked car @ 5am in the morning is fun!!!!

Good luck. Be sure to post pre SVA pics so we can comment.

If you intend driving it there you will need a bit better than the preinstalled base map, I would look on the megasquirt site for a map that will at least be a bit nearer than the base map as that was intended for a V8 engine and although it starts a 4 cylinder it is nowhere near correct.
If trailering it there then just adjust the map and injector settings to give a good tickover and to allow it to be driven on rollers for speedo test , take the laptop incase it needs tweaking for the emissions which are only checked at idle.

I've been hunting for a suitable map for a while... If you have a zetec it seems your sorted but with a 2.1 pinto on gsxr750 tb's I'm stuffed!

It starts easy enough and idles (although it is rough). I haven't dared rev it beyond about 3500 at the mo! but with no load on the system, reving freely proves very little...

Bought a timing light the other day so intend to check the basic timing when I get a chance...

The best advice I ever recieved about the SVA test is that it will fail on something,so dont worry ! and when it has failed you know what needs fixing. Mine failed 1st time , got a list of 12 or so fails, 11 minor , 1 needed some welding, passed retest 2 days later.

well tomorrow is the day!

Car still isn't ready... no point in posting pics because I haven't started putting on 'sva' bits like the nut covers.....

bit worried about the brakes and emmissions not being up to scratch to pass... but there is only 1 way to find out now!

will let you all know how I got on tomorrow afternoon....

wish me luck!

Good luck Dave, I passed by yours on Monday, was expecting to see you working on your car but you must have been enjoying yourself at Stoneleigh when you should have been bussy on your Avon.

Lets know how you get on.
