I just rang the DVLA to ask for a chassis number and they told me i need a SVA first to obtain a chassis number!!!
I aint no expert but i think she is slightly wrong there!
Please save me the trouble of not having to listern to her cr*p at the DVLA and tell me step by step(Yes im really thick!) the way of getting a
chassis number.

Make it up
Dont use I's or O's but 1's and 0's instead and then tell em what the chassis number is
the likelyhood of it having been taken is slim
DOnt put anything offensive in it and if youre like you you wont resist the temptation to personalise it a bit, maybe start it with your initials.

Make one up, if it is ten characters long or more, individual looking and with both letters and numbers you'll be fine.
So Matt if you are building a Luego you could use:
Luegomatt0804no01
For your fist car (no01) built in April 08 by you from a Luego kit.
I did that last time with my Robin Hood and it wasn't questioned by anybody.

Unless it is 17 digits long, they will spit it back in your face, they prefer to issue you one, before the SVA as this is how they identify your car
and what it is insured under.
It sounds like you got the YTS kid, ring again and ask to speak to one of the grown ups!
If you can keep you head, whilst all others around you are losing theirs, you are not fully aware of the situation

Hi Matt, I sent a letter to our local DVLA office and a nice chap called me back. I had to email some identification to him and he is going to issue
me with a VIN number and all relative forms. The form with the VIN number on has to be signed after being stamped by a garage then returned to the
DVLA before applying for SVA.
I will U2U his email.

You can't do the SVA without a VIN - it's the first thing they check before they start the technical stuff (at least, that's what my
tester did).

Dont MK issue their chassis' with a VIN number?? I know Tiger Sportscars do and even supply the VIN plate as part of the kit - the chassis
number for my kit is on the receipt from 2002!!
Yet another DVLA numpty who hasnt got a clue it seems!!!

Hot from the Chelmsford DVLA office i asked about reciepts for the Built Up Vehicle Inspection which i will be doing befor SVA. I will make up a 17
character letter/number combination and submit it to them on the BUVI form, they were happy with that.
I think that they expect the chassis manufacturer to provide a number.

Did that and got "This is an ORANGE answer phone message for ......" Then thought woops, what if he doesn't work there anymore?
Could have been an interesting call if he didnt
Now found out that he does and have sent him email and we will see what happens.
