A good fail i guess

well what a day for my sva, decided to drive the car and risk the rain, i got soaked, even with my leathers and lid on!

first impressions with the tester (Paul) were really good, he liked the car and said looked well built so a good start. everything was going well untill the emissions, i'd forgot the usb lead for the power commander, so couldn't load the sva map. we tried it without and it was way high. so lisa drove back home to pick up the usb cable 3hrs round trip from high wycome to edmonton. so we caried on with the rest of the test, noise passed fine, it was 97db, my only fail was the brake bias needed adjusting and locking
and handbrake needed adjusting too, which i was going to do there. but once lisa got back with the usb cable, we spent 1 hr with the laptop adjusting the map to get it to pass, it did but only just.
lamda was 1.02 needed to be 1.03 max
Co was 0.19 needed to be .20 max
HC was 36 needed to be 200max easy!

but we run out of time to adjust the handbrake and the bias bar and lock it.

what i'm most gutted about is the 4 weeks wait for the re test

Hard luck! I know that feeling. the next 4 weeks will be frustrating but you'll soon be on the road and it'll all have been worth it.

Excellent news. Do not worry about the 4 weeks as it is that time of year when it rains for 4 weeks solid!

Could have been worse though so congrats on getting that far.
Any reason you didn't book Yeading?
Thinking about there or Southampton.
Any feed-back welcomed.
Cheers, Pewe

A good fail indeed!
At least you don't have to go back to do the emissions!
You could always try calling them every few days as retests are often not attended apparently so you may very well get a cancellation! It's what I'd do for sure at this time of year...

Your right steve, i'd hate to go throu the emissions again, that was hard work, he really wanted it to at least pass that.

i did say to them i'll take any cancellation at short notice, but might try calling every few days, they might give in

A good fail. Shame you ran out of time.
No excuse for the re-test though

Sorry to hear the bad news John.

Did you have too much rear brake when they were tested?

Stu.

I know that failing feeling. Just keep pestering them. Every time I phoned up Manchester for a retest they gave me a different date

Good luck

Paul

That is a real shame to fail on those bits, as for 4 weeks, well I'd be gutted too. When I went I took a drill and the pins with me and drilled the bar when I was there and he was happy with it. I go along with the pester them regularly strategy, good luck.

hi john

shame about the power commander lead but at least you know your nearly there, it suprises me about the emmisions, normally thats the easy bit especially with the newer injected engines ( carbs are a bit more tricky ) which values did you struggle with on the emiisions test out of interest ???

well done

marc

Stu, my bias was to much to the front. i set it that way as i didn't want the rears locking up. and we was going to adjust and lock at the end, but ran out of time.

Marc i first tried it without the map, but in hindsight i should have discconected the PC and tried it without.
the lamda was 4.097 so way high. i did wonder if the cat was on wrong but we couldn't see any markings for flow direction.

For some reason the sva map woulnd't load maybe due to it was for 2002 R1 but the table did load, but had to adjust the first couple of throttle positions, for the fast idle test 2500,3000 from -10 to -20 which got lamda down but then put the CO up! so it was a bit of a seesaw to get all three right on the money!
as you can see from my results the lambda and C0 were only just a pass!

hi john

yep its a balance go too lean and you miss lambda, cat will flow either direction, normally if the cat isnt hot enough you will see high hydrocarbons, and as soon as the cat is hot these drop, the figures you put in sound about normal,
well done getting it there

shame about the handbrake

i would just keep pestering them till they give you a retest / cancellation

After many calls of pestering, and believe me i can be a real pest (just ask chris @mnr)
i've got my retest date brought forward to the 19th

now will it be an issue that i dont have all the sva stuff on the car, from the first test? as i had to send back the front bumper/indicators to mnr.

i've only got to get the brake bias set and locked and check the handbrake everything else i have a tick for!
