The 'Process'

Can someone briefly talk me through the SVA / DVLA process as it relates to me...

All the components on my kit (except engine / box - from 2007 car) are new (and look as such).

Only problem is... I've no idea what I've done with my folder of receipts over the year, so will struggle to provide proof of this!

Who concerns themselves with this side of things - SVA or DVLA staff?

What is the likely outcome based on the above?

Cheers!

DVLA will need to see receipts when deciding what registration to allocate.

SVA don't care - although there have been some people on here that have had to send some stuff in, I don't recall what - to prove they have built it?

I would suggest calling your SVA and DVLA offices.

no receipts will not help your cause.

I sent my SVA1 form of and I got a letter back asking me to confirm it was an amature build, I also had to provide reciepts for major components (Body, Chassis, Engine etc) and some pictures of the build.

Cheers

You could also look at Fozzies 'stickie' @ the top of the SVA/legal section

I registered my car despite not having receipts.

I was going to get a Q-plate anyway so the fact that the origins of half the bits were uncertain didn't really matter.

I don't understand the recent DVLA obsession with receipts anyway. After all, they're the DVLA not the police!! I got right royally pee'd of with their attitude of "unless you've got receipts we'll assume it's nicked"... As it happens, it was all above board (I even stupidly paid VAT despite it being cash) and rather resented their suggestions. In the end I said "if you think it's all stolen goods inform the police, if you think I haven't paid VAT inform the inland revenue, if you think it's a ringer give me your evidence, otherwise take my money and give me a flipping registration plate...."....

Of course if I fired up StarOffice and created a load of invoices from "Ben's Second hand car parts place" they would have been totally happy....

Grrrr. I've never had to deal with such incompetent jobsworths bone-idle time wasters. Although apparantly nowadays they prefer to call themselves civil servants....

Meanwhile, the SVA process appears to be straightforward and dare I say it logical..... The only thing they care about is the date of manafacture of the engine....

Thanks all.

I assume they take copies of all documentary evidence?

Process is

1) Fill in SVA form send to VOSA
2) Get delaration of newness in post. Sign and send off with all reciepts and photos of build
3) Book date for SVA test withe VOSA
4) Fail on noise and emissions
5) Retest and get SVA cert
6) Book DVLA inspection
7) Get proof of reg from DVLA and buy plates

The above is how I did it but if I were to build another I would try and combine the DVLA and SVA at the test centre

Paul

Both DVLA and VOSA take copies. But you also need to take copies as you dont get the SVA cert back etc

If every thing else is new then you're engine is "reconditioned as new" and your "invoice" should say so. Then you'll be able to get an 08 rather than a Q.
