SORN
I have just got a letter from the DVLA through saying because i didnt declare my car SORN i have to pay £25.
I never recieved a letter reminding me the tax was up. When i bought the car, it wasnt on the road and didnt have a tax disc on the screen so i didnt
really think about declaring it at the time and being at uni i never gave it another though. The car was registered in my name after i bought it, is
there anything i can do, or shall i just cough up and declare it SORN.
Its my own fault really, just thought i would let you know incase there is anyone who needs to do the same.

DISPUTE IT !! Tell 'em you already sent one anyway and be firm with the buggers
They tried this on with me but when I pleaded ignorance, pointed out that the bloody thing was untaxed when purchased it and I sent
'another'(ahem) completed form to them, they relented and let me off.
U2U me your email address and I'll send you copies of my letters if you like
worked for me

I got a letter last week too, said SORN ran out in july and because i didnt declare it again £25 please.
I had a telephone conversation with swansea last year re SORN and they said if the car is in a state of dismantlement(for want of a better word but i
cant think of one)i need not declare SORN.
Evidently there are people employed by the DVLA that come round and have a peek in your garage to see what if anything remains of your car, anyhow i
sent forms back stating the car was scrapped prior to end of SORN in july which is true enough.
The problem is the V5 still exists at my local VRO because i want to get an age related plate, can of worms for the penpushers at swansea this
one.

Does that mean if i say that the car has been dismantled, i can get off the £25. I still want to have an age related plate, so whats the best way?
Will i still be able to if i declare it dismantled?
£25 aint that much, just want to beat the system

[I have a smiliar problem , i have a logbook for a mk3 escort that i scrapped and only kept the engine. I have never declared sorn on it and as i no
longer require it would like to declare it scrapped but i am worried that they might then try to charge me for not declaring it.
I was thinking of just hanging on to the v5 and if asked for sorn will say i scrapped it 2 years ago when i got it. Has any one got any ideas of best
bet?
Paul.

i have a similar problem with a rover i busted nov '01, moved house a few times, never sorned it, now if i re register it i may well get turned
over by them. Thinking of making up a new owner, namely my good missus (she'll never find out...!) and applying for a V5 in her name, and
pretend i sold it years ago, before the tax ran out.
Maybe you could try simething like that, say you sold it years ago, v5 lost in the post?

I think if you donate the information in the 1st place then they have got you,i will not declare SORN again as all i am achieving is placing myself on
there hit list.

surely not telling them about it being off road, and waiting for them to contact you about SORN are as bad as each other. Kinda shooting yourself in
the foot, because you don't know what problems lie around the corner with the build.
I am just telling them I scrapped the car, because that way I will have all the paperwork, rather than getting confused about where I stand with the
law..
Just my 2p's worth (probably only worth 1p tho)

Surely if you tell them you scrapped the car, it's identity, V5, everything is useless. Meaning the plate is too.... Just thinking it might
give you problems when trying to get an age related plate ??? Maybe it dont matter.
I didn't tell them what i was doing with my Mk1 Escort, i bought it, registered it in my name, scrapped it, that was it. Never got any Tax
Reminders, SORN, nothing and it had an old tax disc on it, but had run out when i got the car.
