Registration, Mot's and SVA's.
Hi.
I have just about finished my car now and have the MAC papers from the SVA too. The vehicle is built from scratch and the the runing gear (engine,
rear axle, steering rack and gearbox were all taken from the same Mk2 escort estate. At the moment I am having real trouble finding out whether I
actually need an Mot certificate or not. When I have called the DVLA (now about 6times) each time I get a different answer and I am getting somewhat
confused in whether all of the DVLA staff actually know what their on about.
If anybody has any info on this and how to get registered and whether I need an Mot certificate that would be greatly appreciated.
ROB.

DVLA rarely know what they're going on about. You don't need an MOT before SVA and you don't need one until 3 years after SVA.
Anything else is just plain wrong

Depends if your car ends up 'on the system' or not. If you're in the MOT system then you're screwed and will have to have it
every year. If you don't MOT before SVA then you shouldn't need to.

talking with the Peterborough Vehicle inspector last Friday he very clearly said that my car will need an MOT 1 year after SVA as it has more than one
major component (Engine,Gearbox,Axle etc.etc)that it not new . If your Escort had all new components then maybe , but I think it unlikely, what you
should get is an age related plate but of course that will also mean you need an MOT after a year. What you don't need is an MOT pre SVA just a
car that would pass it otherwise you have no hope in the SVA. Good luck

The vehicle inspector is WRONG he talking from his rectum but unfortunately not only does he have all the cards he owns all the cards. The
problem appears to be part of the software for the V5C it is not designed to handle 'new' cars on 'old' registrations. It has
to be fudged & the 'new' date put in several places, it would appear this does not get done with many kits.

SVA'd & registered June 2006 with age related plate. Local DVLA man confirmed at time of registration that MOT not required until end of
2009. Not been asked for MOT yet.

Looks like 3 years mate.
make apointment at DVLA office, just take your car (on a trailer)Mac , insurance , cheque book , and any reciepts and build evidence such as photos
etc fill in the forms and that should be it , unless like me you are still waiting for the bl**dy insurance certificate to come after a week of
pestering :mad
