The Old Chestnut IVA!
My taret is to get the car complete before the end of March but I have just been shipped off to the far east for a number if weeks which is lost
valuable building time. I have a zetec powered car so will there be any major issue I need to worry about if I miss the March target?

The cost increase?! A horn....!? I think getting a pass for a BEC will be the issue - if you can stomach the cost, then IVA should be ok for you.

what about all those cleaver starter motor versions that others have used, just made from old second hand parts

Locost reverse
Can't you just build a locost (rem...cough...ovable) version of this:

erm, his cars got a zete c, not a BEC. no problems with reverse here!

Apart from being nothing to do with this topic..........
That's a CARAVAN mover!! it does about 0.001 mph and you would have to engage it before it does any thing and the thing weighs loads too!
Please feel free to put one on your car and tell us how successful it was.

Yep! A caravan mover. I wonder if the requirements for a reversal also mention the speed? As I said, it's a brainwave.
If one would do a locost version, he could do this with a proper (powerful) E-motor and dito gear ratio.
Fortunately I am building a locost with a xflow engine with standard gearbox...

my parents caravan has a motor mover on it. fantastic thing.
Its a friction drive on each tyre....not sure how well it would work on IRS you would need to make sure it would disengage well out of the way for
normal driving.
what about a stick with a rubber ferrel on end to simply push yourself along....
or a centrally located swivel jack which will lift and swivel car so its facing other way
ok now im getting daft.... i dont even own a BEC haha
