I'm going for 15s on my Avon.
I try 195/50 r15 and seems too little in the rear, I try 205/55 r15 ans seems just ok. I think 17 is too big, so if you want to use 17 I think you have to do some modification.
Caterham say (or said, haven't looked in a while) on their website that they will fit wheels above 15 inches but do not recommend them as they
adversely affect handling.
Saw a humvee in cardiff the other day, jet black with blacked out windows and 25inch shiney chrome wheels with liquorice tyres. Ultimate chav wagon.
£50k + 4mpg is an expensive way to look that much of a t*ss*r!
13's will not fit on an Avon due to the brilliant design of the rear upright.

i think 14s or 15s at most are the best choice, not as retro as 13s and not as chavvy as say 16s. plus tires are cheaper in 14s.
it is somehow difficult to get a good price on tires that fit 13" rims and have more than 175 width.
at least there are common sizes in 14" such as 185-65 R14 or 195-55 R14 which can be found in plentiful supply
I have fitted 15's and they fill the rear arches. Think 17's might be too much. Had 18's a road car once and went back to 17's because it handled better.
I am intending to go for 16's as 15's are a bit of a close fit to my Princess calipers..
I am thinking along the lines of 205/45 rubber
(I had even thought of 235/35 on the back.... )

I think it is inusual 235/35 r16. Maybe nobody produce it. (regular pneus)
And what about wheel offset?
I think I will use 195/50 r15 on front (nice and very ceap)
On the rear I would like to use large tires too, but I worry about the offset.

13"s deffinately do not fit correctly on the Avon due to the rear uprights.
The recommended wheel size for the Avon is 14".
However, I have got 15" x 7" on mine. (tires are actually cheaper for 15" than 14" due to 15"s now being a more popular
size)
you would have to do some serious mods to rear arches to fit 235s under there. SVA regs on protruding wheels etc.
Personally I think that anything over 15" on a se7en looks awfull and must affect the performance/handling in a negative way i.e rolling road
resistance and over tall rolling radius(taller gearing/ slower accelaration). On a car that is designed to be light and nimble why fit wagon wheels on
it? Best to try and keep unsprung weight to a minimum if possible.
But I guess everyone has their own view. Good Luck.

Hi Rudy,
Mine are 195/55/15.
You just have to be a bit careful with the rear arches. I have extended mine to give better clearances.
I will try and attach a pic of my car. hopefully you will see it and see that 15" wheels are plenty big enough on an Avon
