oil cooler

I have decided to fit an oil cooler to the race car
The idea is to fit a take off plate in place of filter, fit filter remotely, and cooler behind steering rack with suitable ducting

does this sound ok?

I've got an oil cooler I want rid of if you need one!

Hi Ernie

Before splashing out on an oil COOLER. Give me a shout. It's not necessarily oil cooling that's a problem but actually getting the oil up to temp in the first place. Hence the oil intercoolers that are being run by some in the championship.

Cheers Matt

And before splashing out on big money 'race' oil-water coolers, have a look at what's available in the marine commercial range, much cheaper for the same thing. Most commercial boats use water cooling exchangers for gearboxes and main engines, and gen sets.

Cheers,
Nev.

If its a locost race car in the series, then you are obviously trying harder than me as I dont run one and dont get too hot. I dont run a fan either.

The superb Procomp radiator helps though.....

So given a water temp of 80-90 what sort of oil temp would you expect to see on a Locost racer without any oil cooling fitted?

Do people run standard or high pressure oil pumps? ...and what weight of oil? I currently using VR1 20W50.

Shaun.

I run with:
- No oil cooler
- standard oil pump
- Mobil 1 Motorsport 15W-50

I run high pressure high flow oil pump, no cooler, procomp radiator, low temp thermostat and Millers CSS 20w50. Saw 80 degrees constant at Brands once off the grid.
