SORN needs renewing annually!
stevegough - 13/5/10 at 09:18 AM

Gave DVLA a 'quick' call yesterday (took over 6 minutes to get past the wall of robot telephonists asking me to choose the right options!!!!).

Finally got a human (a welsh one, not sure if that counts?) explained to her I SORNed the Sierra over a year ago - and did I need to renew it annually? She said I did, and after lengthy explanations about why I wanted to keep a 'dismantled' car without scrapping it - she renewed the SORN there and then!

Indeed, assuming the V5 is in your name/address you should have got a reminder by post.

I just got mine and updated over the web in less than 30 seconds, with an email confirmation just in case the paper one doesn't turn up.

yes, but they arn't obliged to send you a reminder - so sometimes they don't bother

I've just got one left on a SORN now and its easy enough to do on there automated phone line if you've got the reminder or the V5

Yes, just to add - during the conversation she informed me that the original SORN acknowledgement was sent to the previous owner and she assumed that so was the 12 - month reminder!

I still get reminders for cars I tore apart years ago, I really should get round to telling them they no longer exist!
