Cortina Mk4/5 Axle
Simon - 19/7/02 at 10:00 PM

Hi Guys,

Having serious thoughts about rear end. Thinking of using Cortina instead of Sierra IRS. Chassis is 4" wider than book

Is the axle wide enough? Also, will the high quality steel wheels that came with my donor Sierra fit (using Sierra front uprights - would like to carry only one type of spare wheel).

Appreciate axle ratio will most likely be different, and will affect my speedo.

Or should I persevere with Sierra IRS

Your thoughts and comments would be appreciated.

Thanks

Simon

Hi Simon,

I have used the Cortina axle in my car which is +4" and it IS wide enough, I suppose you have to decide if you NEED the IRS, live axle is much easier. I believe the Sierra wheels are a different offset, like FWD wheels, but I don't know if this will make a difference.

Cheers

Chris

Chris,

Thanks for your response, have now started modifying chassis to accept solidly mounted Sierra diff. Will be making wishbones in the next week or so.

Whether I need IRS - who knows. Sounds good though.

Thanks and ATB
