As title really
I have always thought that the wheels on the back of some 7 type kits look to narrow.
So assuming i stick at 15"
What would be a good width wheel and tyre to go fore
Thanks
Go too wide and you will affect the balance / handling and not for the better. I think 205's are about right with the power of an R1 but guess you could stretch to 225's if you really have to.
what engine are you running and what power does it have, i run 205/50/15's on the back of mine and they povide plenty of grip for my 2.1 pinto. i have a mate who runs 225/50/15's on the back of his dax and he runs a nissan turbo! i think most people would say that 195's are more than adequate.
i run 215 / 17's on the back of my nissan turbo if that helps, i think when i change i'll go 195 front and 205 rear
I'll add my vote for not much wider than 215 and prefferably 195 to 205.
I have 225's on 15inch rims 7j or 7.5J cant remeber .
Not been for a run yet so cant tell you if they rub or not.
you also have to rember that it not just a case of what will fit under the arches, but also what wont make contact with the uprigh shock ect ect so
width , radius and ofset all come into play.
i would think 205 is enough for most.

Advice I got from MNR for best wheel/tyre combination for fastest lap times was 195/13 front and 205/13 rear. Apparently gives max grip while keeping
unsprung weight down for handling. Only reason to go bigger than 13 is to get bigger brakes in (which is not necessary on a 440Kg car but)
I'm told MNR are working on new rear wings that will take 225s but I imagine they are only of value on CECs, or for drivers who prefer understeer
bias for safety.
